  • A Study on Chinese Singaporean Modernist Literary Movement

Posted on October 27th, 2008 admin No comments

Our research fellow, Ms Phoon Kwee Hian, of the Year 2008 Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship (LKCRF) awarded by National Library Board has completed her 6 months of full-time research. She will be giving a public talk in Mandarin to present her research findings. The topic of the talk is A Study on Chinese Singaporean Modernist Literary Movement.

Owing to institutional controversy and literary politics, not so many critics have attempted to write about the position of Modernist Literature in post-independence Chinese Singaporean literary history. The years between 1967 and 1983 are almost an unexplored land. However, this was also the critical time period of the development of Modernist Literature in Singapore.

Ms Phoon’s research involves the analysis of the literary supplements of Nanyang Siang Pau, including Youth’s Corner, Literary Miscellany, Literary Page, Café and Window, published in Singapore from 1967 to 1983 and Chao Foon Monthly in Malaysia from 1969 to 1974, available in microfilms in the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library. Her dissertation, with a firm foundation in the number of words, extensively and analytically studies the origin, development and influence of Chinese Singaporean Modernist literary movement which was helmed by 2 important promoters, Leang Meng Kwang and Tan Swie Hian. This is a talk on a path-breaking research study that you should not miss.

We sincerely invite you and your friends to attend this public talk. Details as follows:

  • “Lock your IP, Don’t get Robbed!” Creative Outreach Seminar

Posted on October 27th, 2008 admin No comments

(An event organised by IPOS, supported by National Arts Council and IP Academy)

Intellectual Property (IP) is an asset generated every day by almost everyone. For those in the creative field, IP is their life-blood, their most valuable asset. And for creators who make a living out of their creativity, IP protection becomes an important factor when they seek to maximise the full commercial values of their works.

Whether you are a creative professional or aspiring to be one, understanding the fundamentals of IP is the first step to protecting your valuable asset. And as you take your work to market, the need to protect your asset becomes greater. How do you ensure that you keep what is yours and be suitably rewarded for your creativity? These common but critical considerations are often overlooked until the unforeseen surfaces – when your IP has been infringed!

Join us at this seminar to familiarise yourself with the essentials of copyright and some of the IP issues that you should take note of when you take your work to market. The seminar will also provide a lively and interactive platform where speakers from various creative industries will share their success stories in marrying IP and their creative works. They will provide practical tips on best practices in harnessing the full commercial value of your works.

Take steps to lock your IP. Don’t wait till you are robbed of it!
